A fire erupted Monday afternoon at the Newport Beachside Hotel and Resort in Sunny Isles Beach, drawing swift action from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
The blaze began just after 2 p.m. at the Collins Avenue high-rise, with smoke and flames pouring from an outside garbage chute.
Firefighters managed to contain the fire to the chute area, while searching every floor and ventilating the building.
A smoldering mattress was found and handled on the sixth floor, but no injuries occurred.
Evacuations were carried out as a precaution, and the fire's cause is still under investigation.
