The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department has launched Florida’s first fully operational Drone as First Responder (DFR) program, dramatically enhancing local emergency response.
Partnering with leading drone technology firms, the department now deploys Skydio X10 drones — advanced, American-made aircraft — from docking stations across the city.
These drones respond to emergencies within about two minutes, regardless of weather or time.
Equipped with thermal and infrared imaging, they assist in searches for missing persons, track suspects, support medical emergencies, and monitor crowds or traffic.
Launching in just 20 seconds, the Skydio X10 streams live aerial video to officers’ devices, even beyond the line of sight, thanks to FAA-authorized autonomy.
A dedicated Drone Unit, staffed by FAA-certified officers, ensures responsible and safe operation.
This bold move positions Sunny Isles Beach as a leader in public safety innovation for its diverse community of over 22,000.
